Manufacturing key to Zambia’s long-term growth – Chenda
Mr.Chenda says the manufacturing industry is central to increasing employment opportunities and reducing the current dependence on imports.
Speaking when he officiated at the official launch of the Zambia Bureau of Standards new Quality Mark for product certification at hotel Intercontinental in Lusaka last evening, Mr. Chenda implored manufacturers to immediately adopt the usage of the new ZABS Quality Mark to ensure compliance to standards.
Mr. Chenda said the quality mark indicates that the product carrying it is quality assured to the consumer while to the manufacturer it means the process of production has met requirements of the relevant standards.
And speaking earlier, Standard Council Chairperson Dr. David Nama said ZABS has acquired modern equipment for testing a wider range of industrial and consumer products.
Dr. Nama added that the bureau of standards has also expanded its metrology capacity to calibrate temperature, electrical volume, force, mass, length and pressure which have led to the increase of calibration of instruments from 425 in 2008 to 1, 175 in 2011.
He says the newly developed quality mark will improve the visibility in certification and that it will be used as a tool to market local products.
