RDA,NRFA devise initiative to empower local contractors
RDA Director and Chief Executive officer Bernard Chiwala and his NRFA counter Emmanuel Kaunda in a joint statement to QFM News explain that the initiative is also aimed at increasing the participation of the local contractors in the lucrative road sector.
They state that under the initiative, the RDA and NRFA will spearhead the formulation of a tripartite arrangement among the road sector players, participating banks and the suppliers of plant and equipment which would enable Zambian owned road construction companies acquire the needed plant and equipment.
They explain that the participating local contractors who will participate in the initiative will be expected mobilize the much needed qualified technical professionals at all levels registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia, to supervise the construction of quality road infrastructure.
They add that the participating local contractors are expected to enhance their skills through the involvement of Project Managers, who initially will assist them in implementing the road project.
They further explain that it is now mandatory that that all big contracts will only be signed after the appointment of the local road contractors in accordance with the 20% subcontracting guidelines issued in 2012.
The RDA and NRFA have since planned consultative meetings with contractors, participating banks and suppliers of plant and equipment for 24th to 26th January 2013 to conclude the financing and operational modalities in order to upscale the implementation of the construction finance initiative.
