Florence Chanda Mulenga Britton
Florence is the Founder and Managing Director of Rainbow Care Solutions Ltd and Rainbow Midlands Training. Florence is a shining example of women’s resilience and determination to succeed against all odds. As a single parent with two young children, Florence started her business in 2005 working from home to balance work and family and also to cut on overheads. Through sheer hard work and determination Florence’s business empire has grown, and currently employs approximately 100 employees. Florence has two offices in Redditch in Worcestershire and one in Warwick in Warwickshire in the United Kingdom.
In an interview with UKZAMBIANS, Florence recalls how she started her business.
“I decided to form my own business as I wanted to be a my own boss, and also being a single parent at the time, I wanted to work for myself so that I could balance work and children. When I decided to own a business I thought of what I wanted to do and what resources I had. I came up with a domiciliary care, as I wanted something more challenging. I then looked into franchising or starting from scratch. As I did not have enough money to pay franchise fees and set up costs I decided to take a risk and started from scratch. I funded my start up costs from my savings and a remortgage of my house. I also got training costs and a bit of help from business link. I am now happy with the decision I made,” Said Florence
Florence’s initial business is a domiciliary care called Rainbow Care Solutions Ltd. Services provided by Rainbow Care Solutions include personal care, assistance with medication, light house hold duties, laundry, accessing community, live in care, companionship and respite. Rainbow provides care to private clients; Social Services and NHS funded clients and provides personalised care to people living in their own homes with a client group that includes the elderly; people with physical disabilities, people with mental health problems and people with learning disabilities. Rainbow is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and subscribes to the general Social Care Council code of conduct. Rainbow is also ISO 9000/2000 certified and is two star rated by CQC which means the people using Rainbow’s services receive a good service and good value for money. Rainbow Care covers Worcestershire, Warwickshire and West Midlands.
In January, 2010 Florence decided to form another company called Rainbow Midlands Training, which provides training in care. The company provides care training from Care mandatory training to NVQs in care. With the increase in demand in care the business has continued to grow and is always seeking to recruit new carers.
Florence is married woman with two sons. She studied Health Sciences at Chainama College of Health Sciences, in Lusaka Zambia, where she graduated in 1992 with a Diploma in Health Sciences and practiced as a Clinical Officer at Chainama College Clinic. Florence further studied with the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, where she qualified as a Clinical Officer Anaesthetist. Upon qualifying at UTH she worked in Theatres and Intensive Care Unit at the University Teaching Hospital and also lectured at Chainama Hills College. Alongside her work in Zambia, Florence owned a private Medical Clinic and a Cosmetic store in Lusaka. She moved to the UK in 2001 and joined the NHS (Royal Liverpool Hospital) as an operating department practitioner, a post which she held until she moved to the Midlands in 2005 when she decided to start her own business.
Florence informed UKZAMBIANS that the secret to her success is her continuous pursuit to grow, learn and improve herself and the business.

During her time in the UK, Florence has continued to develop herself and has since studied and obtained a degree in Business Management, in addition to obtaining a Professional Teachers qualification and also studied Health and Safety Level 4.
