Mr. Satu Lungu and his spouse Mrs. Linda Lungu were nominated for Braunstone Awards 2011 in the category of Service to the community.
“You have been nominated by one or more people to receive an award in the category of Service to the Community. The Braunstone residents Network has pleasure in inviting you to the 4th Annual Awards ceremony”, read the Awards letter.
The Zambian couple who live in Leicester and has 3 children told UKZAMBIANS that they were shocked to receive a letter from Braunstone Neighbourhood Management Board.
“We were not aware of Awards and it came as a shock that we were recognised in this away”, said Mr. Lungu.
There were 76 people nominated in the Service to the community award category and although the couple did not win, there were just pleased to part of it.
Braunstone Neighbourhood Management is a new way of working to improve some of the most deprived neighbourhoods in the UK. It brings together a wide range of people including the Police, Health, the Council and most importantly the community sector in order that they can work in a more cohesive and co-ordinated manner. It does not involve a lot of money and it’s a model that can be easily adopted in Zambia to clean up garbage, deal with sanitation issues in the urban communities.
