African time. We Africans need to pull up our socks.

    • James September 22, 2011 at 9:05 pm -  Reply

This is unacceptable. We Africans blame everybody but ourselves for our problems but anywhere else in the developed world (that is why they are developed ) 2200hrs means that. Imagine if this delay is replicated 1million times by 1million workers. No wonder we underdeveloped. We need to wake up from our slumber

Personally find it sick when people don’t stick to time and some people actually think it is an acceptable norm.

Information coming from Lusaka is that Sata has been called to State House. Though results have not been announced, RB is not at State House.

          • Pretty September 22, 2011 at 9:22 pm -

wow . . . i wonder as to whether that is one of the reasons for the delay. Not that am excusing ECZ.

      • Mwewa September 22, 2011 at 9:23 pm -  Reply

That is why the country needs Sata – he will make every civil servant perfom and make every lazy ministry in Zambia not only clean up their work premises but clock in on time because he will be there waiting for them at 7am – Good bye to lazy days – those who have been keeping so called African time time to move to Congo or Zimbabwe!! If Zambians can be on time in UK, USA or any part of the world they emigrate they will do it in Zed – Bye Mambilima and your work ethics!!

        • Pretty September 22, 2011 at 9:28 pm -  Reply

Mwewa, You are right, if we can be on time in our new host countries we will do it in Zed. We need culture change.

        • James September 22, 2011 at 9:32 pm -  Reply

You know what? It is a pity that RB has left State House. He should have been with Sata wherever the announcement is made. And he should have conceded defeat amicably. Look, George Bush was at Obama’s inauguration. Why is that a problem with US. The same secret service that protects Obama, also protects Bush. Why can’t we Africans agree to disagree and still watch a soccer match over a beer???

          • Pretty September 22, 2011 at 9:36 pm -

So this is like TRUE and not a RUMOUR tha RB has left…..hmmmm.

            Left to where Pretty?

          • Pretty September 22, 2011 at 11:47 pm -

Sorry, was disabled for one reason or another “has left state house”. Anyway it is obvious now that he has left State House as Micheal Sata has officially been declared President by Chief Justice / Returning Officer Ernest Sakala. It’s been nice chatting with you have a good nite.

Just been listening to the 18hrs news on qfmzambia.com:- 5 opposition members stormed mulungshi international conference centre warning them against manipulation of results. Winter Kabimba has confirmed that the results published by ECZ are correct. Apparently PF is closely monitoring all the results being communicated by ECZ. Appealed to supporters to be calm. RB has also voiced his concerns over rioting in Kitwe and Ndola.

Does it really take that long to tally votes….does it come down to incompetency at getting the job done by the ECZ or are they trying to play with the numbers to sway the results a particular way?????

BOLA IN 90 MINUTES, EVERY CAST BALLOT SHOULD COUNT

The river has run dry in urban constituencies now let the rural votes pass the final verdict bola ni 90 minutes. All remaining are rural constituencies. Zambia’s mandate come from compilation of every vote cast in all the 150 constituencies and not just the 33-70 being speculated on in the urban areas. Democracy is not just a preserve of the urban votes but every vote cast from boarder to boarder on the territory of our democratic country.

The hackers should have hired someone who can do maths in their team. Their total number of voters in 133 constituncies only added up to 1.8 million, implying the remaining 17 constituencies were going to post the remaining 3.3 million voters. (if the voter turn up was 100% anyway).how daft…

You must be very dull, it is common knowledge that the voter turn out was not 100%, in fact it about 55% in the so far officially announced results. Let us not close our minds, be level headed and see more than what the eye can meet.

What is rubbish about that statement from statehouse? Have all the 5.1million votes from 150 constituencies been posted by ECZ? Please share with us the link or you believe Zambians are only those on the lines of rail.

  27. PROPHET September 21, 2011 at 5:21 pm -  Reply

Look at this rubbish from State House “State House has dismissed speculations and rumors that the final results of the 2011 tripartite elections have been compiled and that Rupiah Banda has been informed.

State House spokesperson Dickson Jere said ‘such rumors are a total lie. President Banda is not aware of the final results that are still being compiled and will, like anyone else, wait for the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to announce the results.’

He said President Banda has not met anyone or issued any statement to discuss the purported final results. He the President will only make his position known on this matter once the final results are announced.

‘Attempts by the said editor to create rumors that Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata has won the Presidential election are against the Electoral Code of Conduct. Zambians should only believe the results that are coming from the ECZ.’

‘We know that there that there are some people who are trying to create anarchy by taking advantage of the situation. Zambians should remain calm and wait for the final results from the ECZ,’ said Jere”

Let us pray for peace and stabilty. Watching from a distance it has been interesting to see how Zambia has changed both good and bad. The style of campaigning has at times been childish and embrassing, watching how our so called leaders stooped so low to count on votes. The day of reckoning came and has gone, now what awaits all of us is the verdict of who will be the next tennant of State House. Just remember there are so few that have enjoyed the Zambian dream and yet so many who think it is just for the ones Mu Ma Yadi. Who ever leads this nation of ours, must never forget the struggle that went into gaining independence and the poverty that looms over our country now. Enough about the potential that this country has unleash this potential and reduce the poverty. Everyone is accountable

Lusaka – A riot erupted on Tuesday in one of the Zambian capital’s most populated slums, after opposition supporters claimed they found a man carrying pre-marked ballot papers for national elections now underway.

The man was badly beaten and later taken to a police station, as supporters of the opposition Patriotic Front threw stones at billboards for President Rupiah Banda and blocked roads into the Kanyama slum, an AFP reporter said.

It’s sad that PF are resorting to burning elections material on the false pretext the ballots are pre-marked. ECZ are failing us but these acts by PF are just deepening the crisis. Sata needs to issue a statement to calm his supporters down.

Pf is wicked: what the PF are doing in Lusaka is quite scaring and i’m afraid for the lives of people in Lusaka…..there will be war in Zambia when PF looses the election….if you have transport money leave Lsk go to your villages and come back after some good days after election.

Seriously, it takes some kind of restraint to avoid any possible breach of peace in a nation! this needs to be demonstrated at an individual level because places where wars are fought i believe are occupied by people just like us. we aint a special breed per se and so its a shame that such things are manifesting themselves in this manner. its would have been different if really the suspicions had ended up being confirmed. wel, let us do our best all of us about the situation which is so very delicate.
