2010 Zambia’s 7.1% GDP growth, a mining factor

The construction sector has been highlighted as one of the contributing factors to Zambia’s 7.1 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth scored in 2010.

The bank of Zambia has attributed the 7.1 percent growth in the year under review to improvements in agriculture, mining and manufacturing sectors.

The bank in its last quarter review of 2010 shows that the positive growth in agriculture reflects in the rise in maize stocks produced while in manufacturing it’s as a result of increased output of products such as cement, clear beer, soft drinks and milk.

On the other hand, the quarterly 2010 review notes that the Zambian mining sector has benefited from the high copper prices.
