22 Zambian Member squad to participate in 2010 Commonwealth games in Indi

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has further cut down the squad expected to participate in this year’s commonwealth games which starts on October 3 to 14th in India.
The Zambian squad which was supposed to consist of 57 athletes was cut to 22 during a board meeting which took place in Lusaka on Saturday.
Earlier this year NOCZ reduced the squad from 57 to 31 and further cut down to 22 because of lack of funds to take the whole original squad.
NOCZ president Mirriam Moyo confirmed yesterday that only 22 athletes are expected to travel to India on September 28 for the games.
Moyo said NOCZ asked for K450 million from government but it only approved K250 million and the committee will today meet with the officials to finalise the budget.
The athletes that were dropped from the 31 are Patrick Chifunda, a squash player,cyclistsTrust Munang’andu and Obert Chembe,bowlers are Sophie Matipa,Berverly Gondwe,Harry Musonda and Caravoro Chikwanda. The boxers are Christopher Katanga and Mumbela Mukuni.
The Team expected to travel for the games are Milimo Mweetwa, Jade Howard, Mercedes Milner, Mark Thompson and Zane Jordan for the Swimming category, In boxing there is Brian Mwabu, Precious Makina, Martin Chibale and Godfrey Mumba.For Athletics, there is Xavier Kombe, Gift Soko, Rachel Nachula and TonnyWamulwa.
Others are Foster Banda,Matimba, and Hildah for Bowling, Olga Siamupangile,Eli Mambwe and Juma Muwowo will participate in Badmington,while Ray Simbule,Lazarous Chilufua and Kelvin Ndolvu in Squash games. The coaches going with the squad are Sothylingam Nangalingam, Philip Musonda, Lewis Mantelle, Kaite Mubanga, Wisdom Mudenda and Kezzias Mukuni.
