Appeal against Mushili’s sentence, DEC urged


The Committee of Citizens has charged that the Lusaka Magistrate Court’s decision hand Patriotic Front Ndola Central Member of Parliament, Mark Mushili a six months suspended sentence is a draw back in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Mushili, 65 was yesterday sentenced to six months imprisonment with hard labour for attempting to swindle government of over 300 million Kwacha.

He was found guilty together with two of hos co-accused of attempting to obtain 360 million Kwacha through fake claims of supplying food stuffs to government ministries.

Committee of Citizens Executive Director, Gregory Chifire has since demanded that the Drug Enforcement Commission DEC appeals against the judgment on behalf of the Zambian people describing the sentence as too lenient.

Mr. Chifire says if the DEC will fail to appeal against the sentence, his organization will take it upon itself to ensure justice prevails.
He has since given the Drug Enforcement Commission seven days to appeal.
